Marisa began singing and performing with the Merry-An Singers at the age of seven. She joined the Senior Choir of Holy Family Convent, Colombo 4, when she was thirteen and remained an extremely dedicated member until she left school. Marisa is a founder member of Soul Sounds and is also its oldest (in terms of age) and wisest member (as collectively agreed by the group). Her practical, rational thinking has helped the choir get through many a difficult time.
She is a final year BA student in Sociology and works as a journalist for The Sunday Times, which is a local newspaper.
As much as she loves singing, she also finds great enjoyment in acting and dancing. She put these talents to use when she played the lead role in the musical ‘Smike’, directed by Jerome L. de Silva and produced by Holy Family Convent in 1999. She was also a part of the cast of ‘Oliver!’ also directed by Jerome L. de Silva and produced by the Workshop Players in 2006.
The most memorable moment in her singing career was when the Senior Choir of Holy Family Convent was placed second at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales in 2004.
Apart from being a consistent alto and a committed member of the choir, Marisa is also a constant source of entertainment with her many escapades that leave everyone in fits of laughter!
